21 APRIL 2013
11am to 1pmL'arbre: A broad, far-reaching sound... Stretching its branches wide, l'arbre fills its allotted space to capacity.
Der Baum: Forceful to the ear like a burst of concentrated energy. Its roots delve deep and its branches reach for the heavens – two opposing directional forces exerting themselves simultaneously.
The Tree: Expressed as a soft whisper. Tree leaves shimmer and shiver, boughs like branches compose unexpected patterns.
These three languages emphasise various aspects of the tree, the present focus of my aesthetic explorations.
Born in Lausanne, Anne-Lise Saillen trained as lawyer but made the decision to become an artist in 1980 after studying at the Istituto per l'Arte e il Restauro in Florence. At this point she split her life between painting and being a lawyer, until 1993 when she left the comfort of the legal profession to be a full-time artist.
