  • About Paule Sanders

When Paule Sanders moved into a new studio in New Road in Whitechapel, she felt that she had to record the studio itself before she could start work. These five cibachrome prints, transformed into Vermeer-like treasures by their black frames, gradually developed into a work in their own right. They are concerned with time, place and memory. The artist effectively created an installation in the studio out of the traces of the previous occupants - an East End family of butchers, followed by Jewish tailors and a Bangladeshi family.
