About Jeanette Orrell

Jeanette Orrell was born in Leigh, Lancashire in 1964. She studied ceramics and graduated from Camberwell School of Art in 1985. After graduation she travelled between London, Japan, and Greece, eventually returning to the North West of England to undertake a couple of artist residencies and had a family. Jeanette Orrell has exhibited both 2d and 3d work extensively. She is currently based in North Wales. Much of her work explores “ideas", such as domesticity, femininity, or gender roles. This drawing comes from a series of drawings from the interior of her home looking out at the landscape.

The artist writes...

'The working process is quite disciplined in that I work every day and respond to the changes that take place in a very limited area. By observing the same section of landscape on a daily basis I notice small changes, subtle shifts in colour and form as the seasons change. I work by looking at things, it is about me understanding the landscape. I re-draw the same view many times. It helps me to really discover the structure or core of the landscape. It can be the shape of a field or the way a road parts the landscape or the river flows the whole way round a field defining its boundary, then I look at how things relate to that. It is an emotional response, unagressive, unsymbolic, a sensory image.'
