  • About Anthea Alley


    Anthea Alley was born in Malaya. She studied at Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art, moving gradually from figuration to abstraction in both her paintings and sculpture.

    Dionysus is the Greek god of wine (Bacchus in Roman mythology), associated with physical excess. In ancient Greece the cult of Dionysus held a particular attraction for women. This work was exhibited at the 1960 annual exhibition of the Women's International Art Club.
