Dolphins [1988]
Batik print on silk, 46 x 55 cms
Donated by Rosemary Lloyd 1988The Murray Edwards College crest depicts a single dolphin. When the College acquired its charter in 1972, this symbol was chosen by the College Fellows, allegedly because the dolphin is an intelligent animal which swims in schools. Traditionally it symbolises resurrection and salvation. Dr Rosemary Lloyd presented this work to the College when she left New Hall to take up a Professorship in Indiana.
