    Ruth Beardsworth trained as a screenprinter in her native Germany before studying fine art in Britain.

    The Black Isle Suite are ten diptychs which play with multiple contrasts; of positive/negative, up/down, in/out, of shapes, textures, tones and colours. The surfaces are rich and seductive and the colours subtle and resonant. Effects are restrained and variations on simple themes never overworked. All the work is suffused with a sparkling playfulness and an intense interest in the qualities of surface.
