About Jane Boyd

Jane Boyd uses a variety of media in a drawing process which leads to finished work in three-dimensional light-based installation. Her work focuses on the interdependence of time, memory and consciousness. In Perfect Stranger, natural light and mirror is used, at a particular moment, to explore the sense of place contained within the surfaces and cavities of a moulded ceiling. The print represents one photographic moment in this drawing with light.

The artist writes:
'This is one of two ceiling installations where I am interested to create a visual dialogue with the plaster moulding, often an inherent part of the ceiling in traditional city buildings. The work uses this detailing to consider how preservation and conservation effect desire for stasis by bringing emphasis to trajectory and change caused by daily natural illumination. The image is caused by natural light refracted from concave mirror surfaces arranged beneath the plastered areas of the ceiling.'
